I was recently reminded that this interview from last fall is now up on the net...

It came out really well, I think.

LMB> ...Meantime, my Chinese publisher has asked for 800 words of introduction/greeting for new editions of last decade's books due out there next month. Mind is so not there. Must wrench. So SFnal...

Little Alex> ears perk up Chinese publisher?

little Alex>If your books get published in Chinese, I'll buy them for sure (even if I don't end up reading them -- I prefer English novels in English, really). And definitely make everyone I know read them (and request them for libraries, etc.). :)

Yep. We sold four titles to a publishing company called Science Fiction World, in Chengdu, Sichuan: The Warrior's Apprentice, The Vor Game, Mirror Dance and Memory. Oddly, their sales territory does not seem to include Hong Kong or Macau. I have no idea why not.

The sub-sub-agent responsible for the sale is located in Malaysia, of all places. Seems to be a branch of my American agent's Japanese agent, how's that for attenuation? The publisher's signature on the contract is sealed with a proper red chop, too.

To my intense surprise, two of the editors popped up at Worldcon and introduced themselves. I was in the middle of rather a crush of folks, and I didn't get the time to speak with them I would have liked. I admit, my greatest bogglement wasn't, "They came all the way from China!" so much as it was, "My God! They're so young!"

Anyway, I wrote the preface and sent it off last night, and it has been gladly received. In Sichuan. Pardon me while I walk around and gape in amazement at the Internet once more. It will be translated and appear as an intro to all the titles, when they come out.

At some point, I'll also send a copy to Mike to add to the essays page here on the Nexus.

Ta, Lois
